What Happens in the Relapse Prevention Programming at Family First?

Addiction among teens is changing. Teens are starting to drink less and recognize the dangers of drug use.1 However, process and screen addiction risks are on the rise. In fact, nearly half of teens are online almost constantly, nearly double the rate in 2014–2015.2 Process and substance addiction treatment, including relapse prevention activities, is effective and can help teens find a healthier way forward.

Family First’s relapse prevention therapy programming helps teens understand the root causes of their addiction and develop coping strategies to avoid relapse. Our team of professionals works closely with teenagers and families to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses each individual’s unique needs and challenges. Call 888.904.5947 today to find help for your teen at our South Florida center.

The Pillars of Relapse Prevention at Family First

We know that both substance abuse and process addiction are highly personal experiences and can lead to feelings of isolation. Teens who compulsively game, use social media, drink, or use drugs are not doing it as a moral failing or out of laziness. Often, they are coping with challenging emotions, trauma, or underlying mental health issues.

At Family First, we believe that relapse prevention is an essential part of the recovery process. Our approach is based on:

Education and Awareness

We provide teens with the necessary knowledge and information about addiction to understand its impact on their lives. By educating them on the risks associated with substance abuse and process addiction, we empower them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

Identifying Personal Triggers

Each individual’s journey towards recovery is unique. Our team at Family First works closely with each teen to identify their personal triggers that may lead to relapse. Through therapy sessions, we help them understand the root causes of their addiction and develop healthy coping mechanisms to avoid relapse.

Building a Support Network

Connection is a major part of recovery. Teens struggling with addiction often feel isolated and disconnected from others. At Family First, we emphasize the importance of building a support network during the recovery process. Our therapists work with teens to foster healthy relationships with family members, peers, and other positive influences in their lives.

Developing Healthy Habits

In addition to addressing the root causes of addiction, we also focus on developing healthy habits that can support long-term recovery. This includes practicing self-care, setting goals, and creating a routine that promotes physical and mental well-being.

Activities That Anchor Recovery

We engage with the teens in our care through a variety of activities designed to reinforce their recovery. Our program model incorporates:

  • Experiential therapy to facilitate emotional expression and processing.
  • Academic programs to ensure continued personal growth and educational advancement.
  • Holistic therapies that encompass mind, body, and spirit, such as expressive art and equine therapy
  • Evidence-based talk therapy sessions provide a safe and supportive environment for teens to explore their thoughts and feelings.

By offering a comprehensive approach to relapse prevention, we strive to help teens overcome addiction and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Our Levels of Care

Teens and families can find support at multiple levels of care at our treatment center.

  • Residential care – Boys 13–18 receive 24/7 addiction care and supervision while staying at our safe, secure campus.
  • Partial hospitalization – Boys and girls 13–18 come to treatment during the day and return home in the evening.

Depending on the needs of each individual, our team will work together to determine the appropriate level of care for a successful recovery journey.
