Behavioral Programs for Your Teen at Family First

Teens show their emotions in different ways, but they’re not likely to verbalize them. Isolating, acting recklessly, or being addicted to games or social media aren’t just ways of seeking attention; they are signs of deeper mental health issues. In fact, more teens than ever are dealing with mental health challenges. Finding help for your child through teen behavioral programs can help them explore their mental health and find a healthier way forward.

The adolescent treatment programs at Family First are designed for teens 13–18. Through evidence-based, compassionate care—and a focus on family resilience—we help teens navigate the challenges of adolescence. Find help for your teen at 888.904.5947.

The Family First Approach

We take a holistic approach to teen treatment, focusing on most major areas of our clients’ lives. These include:

  • Communication – Effective communication is the foundation of strong relationships. Our programs help teens learn how to effectively communicate their thoughts and emotions, as well as how to listen and understand others. We also communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates.
  • Evidence-based care – Psychiatric and therapeutic interventions are based on scientific evidence and proven to be effective. We use a combination of individual therapy, group therapy, and specialized treatments to provide comprehensive care for each teen.
  • Family involvement – Family plays an important role in the treatment and recovery process. That’s why we involve parents and caregivers in their child’s treatment through family therapy sessions, educational classes, and support groups. This helps strengthen family bonds and promote long-term healing.
  • Experiential focus – At Family First, we believe in the power of experiential therapy. We incorporate activities such as CrossFit at our campus gym, deep-sea fishing and paddleboarding on the Florida coast, and expressive art or equine therapy to engage teens and help them process their emotions in a more hands-on way.
  • Personalized treatment – Every teen is unique and requires an individualized approach to treatment. Our team works closely with each teen and their family to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses their specific needs and goals.
  • Aftercare – Treatment is not the end of the journey. We provide aftercare services to support teens and their families as they transition back into their everyday lives. This may include continued therapy, support groups, and resources for ongoing mental health care.

Our programs are designed exclusively for teens 13–18. During group and experiential therapy, small groups are led by trained professionals who are passionate about helping teens navigate the challenges of adolescence. This creates a safe and supportive environment where teens can openly discuss their emotions and learn healthy coping mechanisms.

Who We Serve

There are two levels of care at Family First, each helping teens explore their mental health for healthier ways forward.

Residential Care

Our boys-only program provides residential treatment for teens struggling with behavioral, emotional, or mental health issues. This program offers a structured and supportive living environment where teens can receive 24/7 care and support from our team of professionals.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

The day treatment program is available to boys and girls and is an especially good option for teens when school is out for summer. This program offers a comprehensive approach to treatment through individual and group therapy, as well as experiential activities. Teens attend the program during the day and return home at night.

During treatment, we work closely with families to ensure their home environments are safe, supportive, and conducive to their teen’s recovery. Our goal is to help teens develop the skills they need to manage their emotions and make positive changes in their lives.

What We Treat

Our team has more than 120 years of combined clinical experience, giving us unique expertise when helping teens with their mental health. As a result, we are able to help with the most common and complex mental and behavioral health issues teens face, including:

  • Attachment disorders
  • Anxiety, depression, and OCD
  • Substance abuse
  • Trauma-related disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Screen addiction and problematic gaming
  • Neurodevelopmental disorders, like ASD and ADHD

We also have self-harm and suicide prevention programs that can help teens who need 24/7 monitoring but do not need the intensive care of a hospital setting.
