Teen in prescription drug addiction treatmentPrescription drug addiction is an epidemic that affects millions of Americans, including teens. Whether they receive medications after a sports injury or surgery, take them from medicine cabinets, or get them from someone at school, teens have easy access to prescription drugs. This easy access can quickly lead to addiction, a cycle that’s tough to break. Adolescent prescription drug addiction treatment can provide support and teach the skills needed for long-term recovery.

The residential treatment programs at Family First Adolescent Services offer compassionate, comprehensive care for teens struggling with addiction. We know that substance abuse often stems from challenging situations, trauma, and underlying mental health issues. Our team specializes in helping teen boys 13–18 explore their deep-rooted challenges and move forward. Call 888.904.5947 to see if adolescent substance abuse treatment is right for your son.

Addiction Affects Teens

Adults are not the only ones who suffer from addiction. Prescription drug abuse among teenagers is a growing concern, and it can lead to serious consequences. Knowing if your teen is struggling with substance abuse is the first step in finding help.

  • Missing medication – Whether your teen has a prescription for an injury or illness or you take medication for your own health, missing pills can indicate abuse. If you notice that pills are disappearing from bottles faster than they should, it could be a sign of addiction.
  • Changes in behavior – When someone is struggling with substance abuse, their behavior often changes. You may notice mood swings, irritability, and anger in your teenager. They may also become more secretive or withdrawn from family and friends.
  • Decline in academic performance – Addiction can take a toll on a teen’s ability to function, including their academic performance. If you notice a sudden drop in grades or a lack of interest in school, it could be a red flag for substance abuse.
  • Physical changes – Prescription drug addiction can also manifest in physical changes, such as weight loss or gain, changes in sleep patterns, and lack of personal hygiene. These changes may be a result of the effects of the drugs on their body.

Substance abuse is more dangerous than ever. Illicit fentanyl is appearing in different kinds of counterfeit drugs. If your teen starts getting medications from someone at school to fuel their addiction, there’s no guarantee of what they’re actually taking. Adolescent prescription drug addiction treatment is essential for helping teenagers break the cycle of dependence and find healthy coping mechanisms.

Teen Treatment

We offer a variety of treatment methods tailored to meet each teen’s individual needs. Our services include:

  • Individual therapy – Teens work one-on-one with a licensed therapist to address underlying issues and develop coping strategies.
  • Group therapy – Group therapy provides peer support and a safe space for teens to share their struggles and learn from others’ experiences.
  • Experiential methods – Exercise classes at our CrossFit gym, expressive art therapy, and equine-assisted therapy help the teen boys we support to stay engaged with treatment.

Academic and psychiatric support are also provided to ensure teens continue their education and address any underlying mental health issues contributing to their addiction.

Family Support

Family involvement is crucial in adolescent prescription drug addiction treatment. We offer family therapy, support groups, and educational workshops to help parents understand the root causes of their teen’s addiction and learn how to support their recovery. Parents and caregivers also receive communication from our team at least three times per week and have 24/7 access to our case managers via text.

After prescription drug addiction treatment, we provide at least 12 months of aftercare support to help teens maintain their recovery and transition back into their daily lives. Long-term recovery requires ongoing support, and our team is dedicated to providing it for both teens and families.
